The Consumption

Never Consume Boring

Hash Speciality Coffee

We came for the fairy floss hot chocolate, we stayed for the full of flavour brunch!

Had a quick visit over to Melbourne the other weekend and of course, had to head out somewhere new for brunch. Head past the established cafes and restaurants along Hardware Street and across the road to find Hash Speciality Coffee. We were lucky to have a morning of sunshine rather than rain so opted to sit outside in the warm sun.

I’m usually a coffee drinker but the floating tower of fairy floss and pouring over your own hot (Mork 85% dark) chocolate to melt it into your drink was something I just had to try. It was certainly fun, and the hot chocolate was delicious to sip on sitting outside in the cool, fresh air. It wasn’t overly sweet either which I really enjoyed.

There was plenty to choose from on the brunch and lunch menu but after a chat to our super helpful and friendly server Sam, Mum opted for the Shakshuka and I went with the Truffled Mushrooms.

Eggs cooked in a stew of tomatoes, peppers, kale, chorizo and a side of sourdough bread – it was just what Mum was craving. Reports were it was deliciously rich and spicy and a great dish to warm you up for the start of the day.

My truffled mushrooms came with a crispy slab of polenta, spinach spread, brioche croutons, a poached egg, greens and pecorino. I also ordered a side of fried haloumi because FRIED CHEESE! I was a bit worried the spinach spread might overpower the other elements of the dish, but there was just enough that it didn’t take anything away from the other flavours – yum! The crispy polenta was awesome; but the hero of the dish is definitely the truffled mushrooms. You can REALLY taste the truffle so if that’s something you enjoy (like me), I highly recommend this filling and earthy dish.

All in all Hash Speciality Coffee is a great spot for brunch. Service was awesome, food and drinks are delicious and the hardest part when we return will be deciding what we want to try next!
